8 classes in Lyon and 9 classes in the Rhône region have read the novels of Valérie Zenatti, Martin Page, Alice de Poncheville and Sophie Chérer. Pupils and writers will then undertake a writing project.

The writers will read their novels to these 400 pupils at Les Subsistances on Tuesday 25 May.

High school students

Critical points of view

In partnership with the Rectorat de l’Académie de Lyon (Board of Education) and the free paper Lyon Plus, we want to encourage the critical eye of young readers of contemporary literature.

1700 students (68 classes, 30 schools) are studying the novels written by the guest writers at the Forum.

Their critiques will be published in Lyon Plus from 26 April until the beginning of the Forum.

"Who said that young people don’t read anymore? With its partnership right from the beginning with the International Forum on the Novel and the Board of Education, Lyon Plus has aimed to show otherwise. With a simple formula: publish student reviews in our paper. The number of high school classes now participating in the operation shows both that the experiment is a success and that, despite the clichés, reading has not disappeared among the younger generations. So we’ll see you between April 26 and the beginning of the Forum, to prove that young readers have a critical sense, too. A cheering thought!"

International exchanges

Critical points of view

High school students from the area are participating in a critical exchange with classes in Italy (Cueno, Turin and Palermo), Spain (Madrid), England (Sevenoaks) and Germany (Rangsdorf).

The young readers will meet in Lyon to attend the round tables and meet the writers they have read.

Students

In partnership with the University Lumière Lyon 2, the Languages and Literature faculties, the École Normale Superieure de Lyon and the professors of the Faculty of Humanities at the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3.

We are offering students in Lyon a chance to take part in the International Forum on the Novel and share their viewpoint on the works of the invited writers with the public.

-
Students will host the meetings that follow the readings in bookstores and the encounters organised in the libraries in the city.

-
Students will be the "chief referees" for the round tables.

This participation in the International Forum on the Novel is part of the university curriculum for the University Lumière Lyon 2 and the ENS students, and contributes towards the validation of their degree.

Writing workshops

This year, in partnership with the management of the University Lumière Lyon 2 and the ENS de Lyon, we are offering three creative writing workshops.

- One will be in French at Lyon 2 with François Beaune

- Another will be in English with Sefi Atta at the ENS de Lyon

For the first time, in partnership with the University of Lyon, we are offering creative writing workshops in collaboration with graduate schools in the Rhône-Alpes region. French students and foreign authors will work together on a writing project.

The programme for these workshops has been entrusted to two university professors.

- Bruno Gelas (Lyon 2) will be inviting Gwenaëlle Aubry, Agata Tuszyńska, Boualem Sansal and François Beaune.

- Michel Lussault (ENS de Lyon) will be inviting the writers participating in the round table "The city and urban energy": Ivan Vladislavić, Luiz Ruffato, James Frey and David Boratav.

Un événement conçu et organisé par Le Monde & Villa Gillet.
